TOTE SERIES
François' Off Cut Tote is a functional everyday bag made from upcycled plastic waste. Produced in Malaysia by .bungkus team, it transforms discarded materials into a durable, lightweight, and water-resistant product. The bag combines simple construction, strong stitching, and a utilitarian structure to ensure long-term use. It is designed to be practical, repairable, and visually honest about its origins. Each piece is unique due to the nature of the recycled materials. The collection features three distinct patterns: Offcut Light, Offcut Black, and Offcut Mono.
Design Concept
The concept is to turn waste into value without concealing its identity. Rather than masking imperfections, the design highlights the raw textures and irregular patterns of recycled plastic. The form is reduced to its essentials: a clean silhouette, a reinforced base, and visible construction details inspired by the fishing industry. The contrast between rugged material and precise assembly defines the overall aesthetic.
Sustainability Features
Only locally sourced discarded materials are used. The plastic is derived from shipping and packaging waste, while the ropes are sourced in collaboration with a local rock climbing company; Camp5 in Kuala Lumpur The bag is constructed with minimal components and designed for durability and repair, extending its lifespan. Small-batch production helps reduce overproduction and allows flexibility based on available waste streams. By transforming low-value waste into a functional object, the project supports a circular approach to materials and encourages more responsible consumption.
